Virginia State ProgramsThe Northern Neck Soil & Water Conservation District (NNSWCD) administers at a local level the state Agricultural Best Management Practice (BMP) Cost-Share Program of the VA Department of Conservation & Recreation (DCR) and assists Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) with federal USDA cost-share programs.
The Virginia Agricultural BMP Program provides funds and/or state tax credits for the installation of conservation practices preventing soil erosion and runoff which contribute to water-quality degradation in streams, rivers, and the Bay. The program offers 45 different practices that can assist landowners and producers in maintaining soil on the land with consequent benefits to crop production and water quality. NNSWCD Annual Cost-Share ConferenceIn an effort to educate and encourage participation in the Virginia Agricultural BMP Cost-Share Program, the NNSWCD in the past has hosted an Annual Cost-Share Conference. The event provides landowners and producers with an opportunity to learn about the program and participate in an open forum question and answer session. Approximately 75 landowners and producers attended the 2007 Conference in Warsaw. A 2008 program is planned, with location and date to be determined. |
