Clean Water Farm Awards Presented

Each year the Northern Neck Soil and Water Conservation District (NNSWCD) recognizes Northern Neck farmers who demonstrate a commitment to protecting water quality and soil resources by issuing Clean Water Farm Awards. Four local farmers received these awards at the District’s annual holiday dinner and recognition program on December 14, 2016.

Kirk Vanlandingham was named the winner of the 2016 Chesapeake Bay Potomac Basin Clean Water Farm Award in recognition of his use of conservation practices including continuous no-till, planting cover crops annually and implementing precision agriculture into his farming practices.

Allen Clarke, Robert Taylor, and Jerry Withers, who formed a farming partnership in 1989, were awarded the 2016 Chesapeake Bay Rappahannock Basin Clean Water Farm Award for their efforts on the land that they farm in Richmond and Westmoreland Counties. They have implemented numerous conservation practices over the years, including cover crops and no-till farming.
