Scholarship Opportunities

Majoring in natural resources or environmental related studies? Scholarships are available now! Deadline for applications is April 1, 2021

The NNSWCD is accepting applications for three $1,000 scholarships available to students who will enroll in a full time college program of study in natural resources or environmental studies in fall, 2021. Students who permanently reside in Lancaster, Northumberland, Richmond and Westmoreland counties are eligible to apply. See below for more information on these scholarships and links to the applications, which include very specific instructions regarding eligibility and the application process

The NNSWCD offers two locally funded scholarships (open to students with permanent residency in one of the four Northern Neck Counties):

Students may download, complete, print and sign the NNSWCD application form found here.  Please note that the application contains important instructions and a checklist of items to be included in the packet, which must be received in our office in Warsaw no later than April 1, 2021 by 4:30 pm.  Applicants must use the official NNSWCD application form. Packets must be complete when submitted.  This form is to be used to apply for either local scholarship. 

  • The J.C. Berger Conservation Advancement Award ($1,000) for graduating seniors or students beginning a full time college curriculum in natural resources or environmental studies (a gap year student for example).
  • The James Edward Minor Ag Stewardship Award ($1,000) for full time undergraduate students enrolled in a full time college curriculum in natural resources or environmental studies. (Previous recipients of NNSWCD scholarships who are eligible to apply are invited to do so.)

The Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts Education Foundation offers four $1,000 scholarships to students across the Commonwealth. These are awarded at the state level and applications must be submitted to the NNSWCD District Office using the NNSWCD application form which can be found here. Students may download, complete, print and sign the applications directly from our website.  Please note that the application contains important instructions and a checklist of items to be included in the packet, which must be received in our office in Warsaw no later than April 1, 2021 by 4:30 pm.  Packets must be complete when submitted.

Please note that instructions and requirements for the NNSWCD local scholarship application differ from the VASWCD scholarship application. The forms are not interchangeable.
