Attention Northern Neck Agricultural Producers, it’s that time of year again! NNSWCD is excited to share that our annual VACS Program sign-ups will begin on Monday, July 6th. Let us help you protect the land with available cost-share funding. Appointments are required so give our office a call at (804) 313-9102 x101 to get on the schedule today.

Nutrient management plans play a vital role in protecting the land we cherish. Although the crops need nutrients to grow and feed our families, they can also have some harsh side effects when in excess. Excess nutrients in runoff are a major threat to water quality. When it rains, the rain can cause erosion, pick up nutrients and chemicals and run off into our waterway.

Northern Neck SWCD works closely with farmers, landowners and the Department of Conservation (DCR) to control runoff pollution and protect our natural resources.

Cover Crop plantings is a best management practice that NNSWCD works with farmers to implement. Cover crops are designed to protect our soil, waterways, and long-term agricultural stability. Farmers are investing thousands of dollars, countless hours, fuel, seed, and equipment into establishing these crops. NNSWCD takes pride in offering cost-share funding to help producers implement these best management practices by off-setting input costs.

The VACS program offers more than 50 conservation practices that cover the full spectrum of agricultural operations. The District and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) office frequently partner to assist producers with their conservation efforts.

Practices that may be funded:
Cover Crops
Nutrient Management Plans
Cropland Conversion
Streamline Fencing
Erosion Control
